Through the New Beginnings process, we, the members aand friends of VLM, are in the midst of re-assessing what it means to be a community of faith.
In the coming months we will need to make hard decisions on how we intentionally witness to and share God's healing presence to one another, and most importantly, to our community. Any decision we make as a people of God will directly depend on what it means to you to be a disciple of Christ, and what priority you put on that discipleship.
So, I invite you to add to your summer homework of prayfully reading the four Gospels, and ponder what it means for you to be a disciple of Christ, a follower of Jesus: the same Jesus who, out of God's love for creation and God's love for you, died on a cross.
IMay the following story be a catalyst for your soul searching: One day a pig and a chicken were walking by a church where a gala charity event was taking place. Getting caught up in the spirit, the pig suggested to the chicken that they each make a contribution. "Great idea!" the chicken cried. "Let's offer them ham and eggs?" "Not so fast," said the pig. "For you, that's a contribution. For me, it's a total commitment."
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to you who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 (NRSV)
